Why This Reference Exists
New York public-record access starts with the idea that many government records can be requested or inspected, but the practical problem is knowing which record system applies. In Ulster County, the Sheriff operates the local jail list for pretrial detainees and short local sentences. New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision runs a separate lookup for sentenced prisoners, including the DOCCS facilities in Napanoch and Wallkill. Federal prisoners and immigration detainees are outside the county roster and require BOP or ICE locator checks.
